Harmonic Resonance

We have all heard what happens when you play a country song backwards,…your wife comes back home, your dog comes back to life, and you get to keep your job at the plant!

Sad songs pull at your heart,…they musically express the human condition,…one that we can all identify with, and one that seems all to prevalent in our modern society. There are songs that almost express perfectly, the things we have gone through, or are going through now, and since most of us can’t sing worth a damn, we’re better off letting those who can, mimic our feelings.

Or, are we?

I have my favourite songs which send me back to those wonderful, or sometimes emotionally challenging times of my life, as I’m sure you do. They dredge up a lot of memories, and at times they unleash emotional baggage we may have been carrying around for a long time.

There are times I just love to wallow in it! Sometimes it feels so good to hurt so bad!

This is a warning sign. When it starts feeling good to feel so bad, you have a problem! If you were to take two identically tuned musical pitch forks, and strike the one, the vibrations emitted from it, would cause the other pitch fork to vibrate in sympathetic harmony (harmonic resonance).

Things which vibrate very closely or identically, are a match to each other, they attract each other, and they are compatible with each other. Therefore, if you are attracted to what you perceive to be emotionally sad music or verbally negative song lyrics, then you are in sync with those vibrations. A steady diet of listening to this kind of low vibrational music will draw your personal vibration down to lower depths.

In the beginning, it will only be temporary, which is why it seems relatively harmless, however the more frequently you revisit this emotional experience, the more it degrades your present emotional state. These intense emotions created by this type of music will make you feel more alive, and more depressed! This is not a tough concept to understand. If you were to survey thirty songs for their emotional content, how many of them would be joyful, happy, energetic? My guess is not too many.

The media has discovered that sex, crime and disaster sells newspapers, and the music industry has discovered that trouble and heartbreak sells music. We listen to what we are fed, because most of us can’t sing or play a musical instrument, so our options are limited. I really hate saying this because I love music, but when something is true, it’s true,…and wishing won’t make it go away. Deeply emotionally depressing songs, are the junk food of the music industry. Wouldn’t it be better to listen to something joyous and positive,…if you can find it!

Now,…I am not going to stop listening to my favourite songs, or posting them, so,….
