Towers

The day is new
the skies are blue,
we sip our coffee
as we contemplate.

At this time of day
there is no way,
we could know
what’s to be our fate.

For in a while
you’ll see no smiles,
just a look of terror
etched upon each face.

And where the towers stood
pronouncing life was good,
a senseless tragedy
has visited this place.

Now with that first attack
there is no turning back,
could that be war
standing at the gate?

Or will the one
we’ve known through his son,
wake us up
before it’s too late?
